A. LENT

I want to teach you a new word today: LENT.

Can you say that word? Repeat after me: LENT.

What is Lent? Lent is that time of the year when we remember that Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us.

Who can tell me why Jesus suffered and died? (GET A RESPONSE). Jesus suffered and died for our sins.

B. MARY

This morning I am reading from the Bible about a woman named Mary. Mary knew that Jesus was going to suffer and die for her sins. Mary loved Jesus so much. Mary wanted to say thank-you to Jesus. Mary wanted to give Jesus a present. So Mary took a bottle of expensive perfume. It cost more than all the money in the offering plate here (HOLD UP OFFERING PLATES WITH MONEY). And she poured that perfume over Jesus.

C. WHAT WE GIVE JESUS

What's that new word I taught you? Who remembers? (GET A RESPONSE). Lent. We are in Lent. We remember that Jesus died for our sins. Now God wants us to be like Mary. God wants us to say thank-you to Jesus. God wants us to give Jesus a present. What would be a good present for you to give to Jesus?

-silver (HOLD UP SILVER BARS)

-gold (HOLD UP GOLD COIN, BOTTLE OF GOLD DUST)

-perfume (HOLD UP PERFUME BOTTLE)

The best present you can give to Jesus is (PULL HEART OUT OF BAG) your heart. Ask Jesus to come into your heart. Give Him your love (HOLD UP LOVE CARVING).

Can you remember that, boys and girls? We are in Lent and we want to say thank-you to Jesus for dying for our sins. We want to give Jesus our hearts (HOLD UP HEART). We want to give Jesus our love (HOLD UP LOVE).

D. PRAYER

I want to pray with you boys and girls a minute. Can you bow your heads please.

Lord Jesus, thank you for these boys and girls. Thank-you for Lent, for dying on the cross for our sins. Now help us all to give You our hearts and our love. Amen.
