Children's Sermon

Genesis 11:1-9; Acts 2:1-12

I Different Languages

-Ask the kids to listen as I read from the Bible; read John 1:1 from Greek Bible.

-Did you understand me? GET RESPONSE

-Why not? Because I was reading a different language - from my Greek Bible.

-Ask the kids to listen as I read from the Bible; read Genesis 1:1 from Hebrew Bible.

-Did you understand me now? GET RESPONSE

-Why not? Because I was reading a different language - from my Hebrew Bible.

-This morning we are looking at the Tower of Babel. God caused men to speak different languages then and they broke up into different tribes and languages and peoples and nations.

II The Same Language

-Ask the kids to listen as I read from the Bible; read John 1:1 from English Bible.

-Did you understand me this time? GET RESPONSE

-I read the same verse that I read from my Greek Bible but this time you understand me.

-Ask the kids to listen as I read from the Bible; read Genesis 1:1 from English Bible.

-Did you understand me this time? GET RESPONSE

-I read the same verse that I read from my Hebrew Bible but this time you understand me.

-Who knows what day it is today? GET RESPONSE

-Today is Pentecost. Today is the day the Spirit was poured out.

-Because of the Spirit people who can't understand each other all hear the same message: that Jesus died for our sins and that we need to believe in Him. Because of Jesus and His Spirit, people who are divided are joined together into the church.

-Because of Jesus and His Spirit you boys and girls are in the church; but so are boys and girls in Honduras, in Japan, and in the Philippines. In fact the Bible calls them your brothers and sisters. They are your brothers and sisters because we are all part of the family of God.

-Can you remember that? Because of Jesus and His Spirit everyone who believes is part of the family of God. You, me, the people out there (POINT TO CONGREGATION), and believers in other countries too.
