************ Children's Sermon on Matthew 1:18-25 ************
By: Rev. Adrian Dieleman
This sermon was preached on November 30, 2003
Today is the first Sunday of Advent.
We lit one of the Advent candles this morning.
We have Christmas lights and decorations in church.
Christmas is less than 4 weeks away.
Let's take a closer look at some of these decorations.
-this remind us of the shepherds of the first Christmas who were watching their sheep by night
-Jesus is the Good Shepherd Who cares for the sheep
BOX OF GOLD:
-reminds us of the wisemen who laid their treasures before Jesus
-we all need to lay our treasure before Jesus
CARPENTER'S TOOL BOX:
-Joseph, Jesus' father, was a carpenter; growing up Jesus helped Joseph
-Mary used a broom like this to sweep the house; Jesus sometimes helped Mary with the house work
-Jesus wants to sweep sin out of our life
FISH & NET:
-Jesus did a miracle so the disciples caught hundreds of fish one night
-reminds us we are all to be fishers of men
-Jesus gives us everlasting life
-open to Isaiah 53 which reminds us that Jesus died for our sins
-that's the whole point of Christmas -- that Jesus was born in order to die for our sins
