************ Children's Sermon on Galatians 5:22d ************
By: Rev. Adrian Dieleman
This sermon was preached on August 8, 2004
based on Galatians 5:22d
Needed: jars of soil with seed and plants
GOOD MORNING BOYS & GIRLS
When you are on a trip with your parents do any of you ever ask, "Are we there yet?" "How much longer?"
How many of you can hardly wait for Christmas to come, or your birthday?
We have a word for this: impatience.
To be impatient means you are not willing to wait.
HOLD UP JAR WITH PLANT.
Is there anything I can do to make this plant grow faster? Can I talk to it – grow faster plant – and it will grow faster? If I sing to it or if Mrs. Dieleman plays piano or organ music for – will that make it grow faster?
Every farmer knows once you plant the seed in the ground all you can do is wait. There is nothing we really can do to make it grow faster.
We have a word for this: patience.
To be patient means you are willing to wait.
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
I am preaching on the Fruit of the Spirit again. The fruit is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
One of the fruit is patience. It comes to us from the Spirit when we believe in Jesus.
Next time you are in a great, big hurry and cannot wait – for Christmas, for your birthday, on a trip – pray for patience.
