GOOD MORNING BOYS AND
A Packing A Suitcase For A Trip
In a couple of weeks I am taking a trip to the State of Washington. Before I leave I need to pack my suitcase. I have a suitcase with me. Let's make sure I have packed everything.
(OPEN SUITCASE AND HOLD OUT STUFF) Socks, t-shirts, shirts, pants, jacket, shoes, shaving kit, deodorant.
What do you think: do I have everything? Am I all packed and ready to go? (GET A RESPONSE)

B Other Things I Pack
My suitcase is full, but I am not done packing yet. I am not ready to go on a trip, my suitcase is not all the way packed, until I also have:
(HOLD UP ITEMS) a flashlight, matches to start a fire, a hammer, seed, a sharp sword or knife, road map, love letter, rule book, pair of glasses, loaf of bread.
Do you think I can fit all of this into my full suitcase? (GET A RESPONSE)
If you think I can get all of this into my suitcase, raise your hand. If you think I can't get all of this into my suitcase, raise your hand.

C The Bible
Boys and girls, even though my suitcase is full, I can still put all of this into my suitcase (WAVE AT STUFF).
All I have to do is this: (TAKE A BIBLE AND PUT IT INTO THE SUITCASE).
Who knows that this is? (HOLD UP BIBLE, GET RESPONSE)
The Bible. God tells us the Bible is a light, fire, hammer, seed, sword, road map, love letter, rule book, pair of glasses, and a loaf of bread.
Let me explain this.
The Bible is a light: The psalmist says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Ps 119:105). A light, of course, is used so we can see when it is dark. The Bible lets us see in the darkness of sin.
The Bible is a fire and hammer: "Is not my word like fire," declares the Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces" (Jeremiah 23:29).
The Bible is seed: "The seed is the word of God" (Luke 8:11). Like a seed it needs to be planted and grow. It needs to be planted in our heart where it can grow into faith and love.
The Bible is also a sword or knife (Eph 6:17; Heb 4:12), a road map, a love letter, a rule book, a pair of glasses, and a loaf of bread.

When I pack my suitcase, I can pack all of this (WAVE HAND ACROSS ALL OF THE ABOVE) or I can pack this (HOLD UP BIBLE).

Boys and girls, the Bible is very important, isn't it? None of us should ever leave home without a Bible, should we? Everyday, we should read the Bible. Can you remember that?!
