Children's Sermon on Lord's Supper
WE NEED TO PREPARE OURSELVES
(1 Cor 11:28) A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
What do we examine ourselves for?
SIN-have we confessed our sins
SALVATION-do we believe Jesus died for our sins
SERVICE-do we live for Jesus
BREAD AND WINE/GRAPE JUICE
-what is in this tray (point to bread tray)?
-what is in this tray (point to grape juice tray)?
-what does the bread stand for?
-what does the juice stand for?
-do the bread and juice get turned into Jesus' actual body and blood – of course NOT
JESUS FEEDS US
-what does your mom do with bread at home?; does she make a sandwich?; do you eat it?; it is food, isn't it?
-the bread and grape juice points to Jesus as our food – when we eat the bread and drink the juice we are reminded that Jesus' flesh and blood feed us through the Spirit
WE PROCLAIM THE LORD'S DEATH WHEN WE EAT AND DRINK
(1 Cor 11:26) For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
By eating and drinking the bread and juice of the Lord's Supper we are saying that Jesus died for us upon the cross. We are saying He is our Savior from sin.
CELEBRATING THE LORD'S SUPPER
(1 Cor 11:23-24) The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, (TAKE THE BREAD) and when he had given thanks, what did he do with it? HE BROKE IT.
And He said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."
(Mat 26:27-28) Then he took the cup, (TAKE THE CUP) gave thanks and what did He do with it? He offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. (28) This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
FOR YOU TOO
-You boys and girls do not eat the bread or drink the juice – YOU CAN'T DO THAT UNTIL YOU APPEAR BEFORE THE ELDERS TO PROFESS YOUR FAITH
-Yet, the Lord's Supper is for you too
-you see it
-you smell it
-you hear it
-You, too, are being reminded that Jesus feeds you, that Jesus died for you.
