************ Children's Sermon on Matthew 16:23 ************

By: Rev. Adrian Dieleman

This sermon was preached on April 1, 2007

Matthew 16:23
Needed:
-some half-finished projects like model car without wheels and not finished painting, half done puzzle, half colored picture
A. Half-Finished
I have some things to show you. Here is a model car. Here is a puzzle. Here is a coloring picture.
What's wrong with these things? (GET ONE OF THE KIDS TO SAY THEY ARE ONLY HALF DONE, THAT THE JOB WAS NOT FINISHED.)
The model car is only partly put together..
The puzzle is only half put together.
Only half of this picture is colored.

B. Palm Sunday
Who knows what day it is today? Today is Palm Sunday.
What happened on Palm Sunday? (GET ONE OF THE KIDS TO SAY JESUS WENT INTO JERUSALEM WITH SHOUTING CROWDS, WAVING PALM BRANCHES, HALLELUJAHS).
Why did Jesus go into Jerusalem? Just because He wanted a parade? No, Jesus went into Jerusalem to finish what God sent Him to do.

C. No Half Job for Jesus
From the Bible this morning we will find out how Satan tried to get Jesus to do only half a job. Satan wants Jesus to do only half a job (POINT TO HALF FINISHED PROJECTS)
-because then Jesus could not save us from our sins
-because then Jesus would not do God's work
-because then Jesus would not be obedient to God
Jesus, however, does NOT do half a job (POINT TO HALF FINISHED PROJECTS). Jesus finished the job He was sent to do.
Jesus did not fall for Satan's trap.
