Children's Message for World Hunger
based on 2 Corinthians 8 & 9
Sign: Corinth; plate full of bread
Sign: Macedonia; plate with two pieces of bread
Sign: Jerusalem; plate with one piece of bread
Divide the children into three groups: Corinth, Macedonia, Jerusalem.
Get someone in each group to hold a sign. Give someone in each group the plate with bread.
Explain that these are three churches at the time of Paul.
Which group is hungry? POINT TO JERUSALEM WITH ONE PIECE OF BREAD
Which group has the most food and money? POINT TO CORINTH WITH LOAF OF BREAD
What should be done about this? SHOULD SHARE, GIVE, HELP, SHOW COMPASSION.
Who do you think should give the most? CORINTH
Let me tell you what happened:
Paul asked the church of Corinth and Macedonia to help the church in Jerusalem. The church at Macedonia was very generous. MOVE ONE OF THEIR PIECES OF BREAD OVER TO JERUSALEM.
The church of Corinth had a lot to give, but they only gave a little. MOVE TWO SLICES OVER TO JERUSALEM. They could have given a lot more. They should have given a lot more.
We are rich like the church at Corinth.
This morning, we give through the Peter Fish and the offering.
Should we give a little or should we give a lot?
We should give a lot because that is what Jesus did. The Bible says, "though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor." He lived in heaven and came to earth as a man. Jesus gave His blood and His life for us. He wants us to be like Him. He wants us to give a lot.
