By: Rev. Adrian Dieleman

This sermon was preached on August 20, 2000

based on 1 Samuel 2:11-26

Needed:
A big stone

A STONES
-I have something to show you (PULL OUT BIG STONE).
-What is this? (HAVE CHILD RESPOND).
-Raise your hand if you have one of these at home (ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO RAISE THEIR HANDS).
-We can use stones like this to make fences, walls, roads.

B FEEL YOUR HEART
-I want you all to do something for a moment. I want you all to feel your heart (FEEL JUST LEFT OF CENTER). Does your heart feel hard like a stone (HOLD UP STONE)? I hope not!
-This evening I am going to read from the Bible about Hophni & Phinehas. These 2 boys of Eli had hard hearts, hearts made of stone. So God had to punish them and kill them and send them to hell.
-Feel your heart (FEEL JUST LEFT OF CENTER). Does you heart feel hard like a stone (HOLD UP STONE)? I hope not or else God will have to punish you too and sent you to hell.

C "YES" OR "NO" TO JESUS
-Boys and girls, every time you say "No" to Jesus, your heart gets a little harder, and if you keep on saying "No," the heart gets harder and harder until eventually God calls it a heart of stone.
-Do you say "No" to Jesus? I hope not! Or else you have a hard heart, a heart of stone (HOLD STONE UP).
-Do you say "Yes" to Jesus? I hope so! Because then you are one of God's special children.
