GOOD MORNING, BOYS AND GIRLS
Hockey stick, puck, pad or two
I HOCKEY GAME
Do you know what these are (HOLD UP HOCKEY STICK AND PUCK)? Explain ...
Last weekend I went to see a NHL hockey game by Disney Land. The Mighty Ducks were playing against the Colorado Avalanche.
Players would skate and pass and shoot the puck at the other net. Every single player on the ice wanted to score a goal.
Now, can you imagine a player racing up to the other net. It looks like he is going to do a slap-shot or a quick wrist shot. Instead, he suddenly sits down and doesn't want anything to do with his stick or the puck anymore.
This morning I am preaching on Elijah.
The Bible tells us he suddenly wants to quit – right in the middle of the battle. Instead of shooting and scoring, he sat down under a tree and asked God to let him die.
Elijah has done some great things. He has scored some goals. But now he wants to quit.
III YOU AND ME
You and I are also involved in a game, a battle. Against Satan and sin and evil. We can't quit. We can't sit down. We can't stop. We need to keep fighting, keep shooting, keep scoring.
Boys and girls, the Devil wants us to give up and stop and to no longer fight. But God's children can never give up.
