2 Samuel 24:14

Needed:
Picture of various denominations of dollar bills (enlarged)
Picture of various coins (enlarged)COUNT THE BOYS AND GIRLS:

Count the number of boys and girls.
Then say, "Wow, this must be a great church to have so many wonderful boys and girls." "Wow, I must be a great and awesome pastor to have so many wonderful boys and girls."

The Bible tells us that David did something like this once. He counted the number of fighting men he had and said, "Wow, Israel is a great country to have so many fighting men." "Wow, I must be a great and awesome king to have so many fighting men."

The Bible tells us that David put his trust in his army and in himself as the commander of the army.

Lots of people today also put their trust in themselves.
Lots of people today put their trust in money.

WHAT DAVID FORGOT:
I have pictures I want to show you. SHOW PICTURES OF COINS AND DOLLAR BILLS.

Everyone of our coins and dollar bills have something written on them. GET ONE OF THE KIDS TO READ THE PHRASE "IN GOD WE TRUST."

The first United States coin to bear this national motto was the 1864 two-cent piece. It did not appear on paper money until the 1950s.

Did you know, "In God We Trust" is a national motto of the United States of America? It was so designated by an act of Congress in 1956.

The final stanza of "The Star-Spangled Banner," written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key (and later adopted as the U.S. National Anthem), contains one of the earliest references to a variation of the phrase: "...And this be our motto: "In God is our trust.""

David forgot this. He forgot that our trust is in God.

Every time you see a penny or a nickle or a quarter or a dollar bill we are reminded our trust in not in money or in the government or in ourselves but in God.

Our trust is in God because:
-God is the only One Who can save us
-God is the One Who made us
-God is the One Who looks after us
