Litany for Commissioning Youth Workers

	Litany for Commissioning Teachers, Assistants, Youth Leaders, and Counselors

L = Leader; P = People; T = Teachers, Assistants, Youth Leaders, Counselors

L:	At the beginning of this church school year we need to hear that the fear of the LORD is the
        beginning of knowledge

P:	but fools despise wisdom and discipline.    (Prov 1:7)

L:	Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
        (Prov 1:8)

P:	They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.    (Prov 1:9)

L:	Those of you who are teachers, assistants, and youth leaders:  Let love and faithfulness never
        leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.    (Prov 3:3)

P:	Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.    (Prov 3:4)

L:	Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;    (Prov 3:5)

P:	in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.    (Prov 3:6)

L:	Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.    (Ps 127:3)

P:	Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth.    (Ps 127:4)

L:	This means our children and youth need to be directed, they need to be pointed to a target, they
        need to be aimed towards a goal.

P:	We want our children and youth to be pointed to Jesus; they need to be aimed towards life with

L:	In this mixed up and broken world, how can young men and women keep their way pure? 

P:	By living according to your word.    (Ps 119:9)

L:	May all of us be able to say:

P:	I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.
	I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.    (Ps 119:10-11)

T:	This is our prayer and our pledge:
	Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.
	With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.
	I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.
	I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
	I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
	(Ps 119:12-16)
