A Litany for the Start of Another Church Year

LITANY FOR KICK-OFF
(Based on Psalm 19, Ezra 7, Psalm 119, Psalm 1, Psalm 78)

P = Pastor; C = Congregation

P The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

C THE PRECEPTS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT, GIVING JOY TO THE HEART. THE COMMANDS OF THE LORD ARE RADIANT, GIVING LIGHT TO THE EYES.

P The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.

C BY THEM IS YOUR SERVANT WARNED; IN KEEPING THEM THERE IS GREAT REWARD.

P The reward or blessing comes when we, like Ezra, study the Word.

C BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO DOES NOT WALK IN THE COUNSEL OF THE WICKED OR STAND IN THE WAY OF SINNERS OR SIT IN THE SEAT OF MOCKERS. BUT HIS DELIGHT IS IN THE LAW OF THE LORD, AND ON HIS LAW HE MEDITATES DAY AND NIGHT. OH, HOW I LOVE YOUR LAW! I MEDITATE ON IT ALL DAY LONG.

P We are also blessed when we, like Ezra, obey the Word.

C BLESSED ARE THEY WHOSE WAYS ARE BLAMELESS, WHO WALK ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF THE LORD. BLESSED ARE THEY WHO KEEP HIS STATUTES AND SEEK HIM WITH ALL THEIR HEART.

P And, we are blessed when we, like Ezra, teach the Word.

C WE WILL TELL THE NEXT GENERATION THE PRAISEWORTHY DEEDS OF THE LORD, HIS POWER, AND THE WONDERS HE HAS DONE. THEN THEY WOULD PUT THEIR TRUST IN GOD AND WOULD NOT FORGET HIS DEEDS BUT WOULD KEEP HIS COMMANDS.

P God's gracious hand of blessing is upon those who love His Word.

C MAY THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH AND THE MEDITATION OF MY HEART BE PLEASING IN YOUR SIGHT, O LORD, MY ROCK AND MY REDEEMER.
